Sarah Stevens (Cello) < back
Sarah is from Brighton and came to Cardiff in 1999 after being awarded a scholarship
to attend the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since graduating Sarah
has enjoyed a varied career, performing with many of todays leading artists from
across the genre, from the likes of Bryn Terfel and Sir James Galway, to Kanye
West and McFly. Keen to branch out, Sarah has worked in a variety of different
ensembles. Past collaborations include performances the Deri Roberts Septet (a
jazz, folk, free improvisation band), and she has twice been invited by Lady
Walton to perform at her home in Ischia, Italy.
As an orchestral musician Sarah is an extra player for the BBC National Orchestra
of Wales, and has worked with the National Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian National
Ballet, London Gala Orchestra, Bath Festival Players, and Sinfonia Cymru. She
has toured with Katherine Jenkins, Vittorio Griggolo, and Kanye West, and has
appeared on The Brits 2006 and The Royal Variety Performance 2005. Her work
in London as a session musician has taken her to Abbey Road, 3 Mills, and locally
she has recorded for Cardiff based Brollyman Productions, Deri Roberts and
Red Eye Music.
Sarah is thrilled to be on the Live Music Now! scheme and working for the
Cavatina Chamber music Trust, and has enjoyed being involved in children’s
concerts at the Barbican with the NSO and also at the National Eisteddfod,
Wales Millennium Centre, with members of BBCNOW. As a student herself Sarah
was principal cellist of all the RWCMD orchestras and ensembles, was twice
selected to participate on the BBC NOW String Placement Scheme, and twice selected
to perform at the Young Musicians’ Festival in Halifax. Sarah has been
taught by Adrian Shepherd MBE, Douglas Cummings and Penny Driver, and has had
masterclasses with Steven Doane, Alban Gerhardt, Pal Banda, and Robert Cohen.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Music, Post-Graduate Diploma with distinction
in performance, the Ernest and Doris Haighes Memorial Award, the Principal’s
Award, and the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal. Sarah is
