Outreach
An important area of work for the Mavron Quartet is performing to people of all
ages who have restricted access to high quality live performances,
providing them with a unique experience. For example, the Quartet has
given concerts in care homes, day centres for people with learning & physical difficulties and people with mental health problems and in schools
for children with special educational needs. Having worked for Live
Music Now for nine years, the Quartet has given numerous concerts throughout
the UK.
Excellent music and timing…it bought back wonderful memories of my daughter playing the violin…the best entertainment we’ve had here in Pen-y-Bryn.

Mavron Quartet Educational Services
In addition to its educational concerts for the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust and Live Music Now, the Mavron Quartet also delivers its own educational workshops. Personally planned by the Quartet, these inter-active performances are tailored towards specific age groups, curricular requirements and learning abilities. With a wealth of experience, professional training and a passion for enthusing live music, the Mavron Quartet’s energetic delivery has been praised and enjoyed by many.
“I thought that they would just play for us but we played games and they told us more about music too. The variety of instruments used were fantastic and sounded great together!!”
Hannah Beare, age 9
“All staff present were very impressed with both the quality of musicianship on show and the way in which they interacted with the children”
Richard Barrett, Albany Primary School
The Mavrons also present a series of Family Concerts at the Gate Arts Centre, Cardiff where they have been resident since 2005. These are free concerts given during half-term in which families and children of all ages are invited to explore a wide range of music, join in with musical activities led by members of the quartet and experiment with musical ideas.
Excellent presentation, well pitched for the audience and responding to type of children in the audience
Julia Greenways, Family Concert Attendee

As part of its residency at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff, the Quartet also undertakes educational work with the Arts Active Department. Past performances at St David’s Hall include The Mozart Effect and Tidy!
Keen to inspire and support contemporary composers, the Mavron Quartet is experienced in leading workshops. Exploring compositional writing for the string quartet and extended string technique, the quartet is comfortable working with individuals or groups in both public and private settings. The Mavrons have led compositional workshops on string quartet techniques at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), at Trinity College, Carmarthen and for Young Composers of Dyfed. In 2012 as part of their tenth anniversary celebrations, the quartet held a composition competition for students at RWCMD.
“The benefits of the Mavron Quartets' expertise and experience during work on my piece greatly helped me develop it, and formed an important step in my learning as a composer.”
Ed Scolding, Composer
“One of the most successful groups to visit the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama to work with the department of young composers has been the Mavron Quartet. For a full afternoon they worked intensively, playing through scores and offering invaluable information regarding the techniques of string writing in a relaxed and friendly yet professional manner. I can thoroughly recommend the Mavron Quartet, both for their lively and engaging concert performances and for their excellently prepared workshops.”
Peter Reynolds, Tutor of Composition, Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama
The Mavron Quartet works with student or amateur string quartets coaching either in a public or private setting.
What They Say
