Chrissie is originally from Aberystwyth and has been a member of several orchestras.
Prizes and awards include: Cavatina Chamber Music Prize, Philippa Yardley Award
from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Haydn Davies Prize from the
National Youth Orchestra of Wales, first prize in the National Eisteddfod and
Junior Fellow in Chamber Music at RWCMD. Currently, Chrissie is an extra player
for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera.
Chrissie studied music for seven years in London; first with a Government
scholarship to the Purcell School, and then at the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama, leading various ensembles, including the Purcell Chamber Orchestra
for the London Haydn Festival and the Buckingham Palace Investiture Orchestra.
After graduating with a BMus at the Guildhall, 2002, Chrissie won a scholarship
to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, graduating with a MMus in 2003,
with distinction in performance.
As first violinist of the Mavron Quartet, Chrissie has played for many members
of the royal family, including HM the Queen, and for PM Gordon Brown, Catherine
Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas. Venues include Windsor Castle, the Foreign
Office and Winfield House, London. Recent performances abroad with the Mavron
Quartet have taken Chrissie to Italy, Brussels and Romania.
Chrissie enjoys freelancing as a violinist and has worked with many major
artists. In 2006 Chrissie performed with Kanye West at the Brit Awards at Earl’s
Court and shows at the Hammersmith Apollo Theatre. This involved recordings
at 3 Mills and Abbey Road Studios, London. Chrissie has played for Katherine
Jenkins at Cardiff International Arena and the Royal Albert Hall and for Karl
Jenkins with the National Chamber Orchestra of Wales at the National Eisteddfod
2006. Special performances include St. David’s Day 2005 for the First
Minister of Wales and guests at the Foreign Office, London and St Valentine’s
Day 2006 for the American Ambassador and guests, Winfield House, London. A
busy summer of 2006 included invitations to various festivals, including the
Presteigne Festival and leading the Music Fest Orchestra, Aberystwyth.
In 2007, Chrissie played for Welsh National Opera productions of Puccini’s
Madam Butterfly, Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Verdi’s Il
Trovador,
Cardiff Singer of the World Competition for the BBC and James McMillan’s
premier of The Sacrifice conducted by James McMillan. Invitations to lead orchestras
included Philomusica for Tewkesbury Chorale Society and the National Chamber
Orchestra of Wales. The end of 2007 saw Chrissie performing again with Kanye
West for his Graduation tour.
